Vocational School
Since completing their formal education isn’t an option for a lot of young people in Uganda, an alternative is needed. Vocational education is a practical alternative to traditional schooling and has been proven to help people excel in a career path. Unfortunately, many people aren’t able to afford the tuition at these schools.
In response to this, we launched the Petros Zoe Vocational Institute in 2018 that is accredited by the Directorate of Industrial Training in Uganda to be able to offer quality skill training at a low cost. We have a need-based scholarship program for students who wouldn’t be able to attend a vocational school otherwise. These students are required to pay a small commitment fee, and then receive a scholarship to help compensate for the remainder of their fees.
Currently, we have two campuses and have served over 100 students. We offer fashion and design, cosmetic manufacturing, shoe making and hair dressing. Each student is required to attend an entrepreneurial course to prepare them for life after school. This course covers topics such as managing a business, finding startup capital and marketing. Our students are also enrolled in a forced savings program. If they sell a skill or service to a customer or client, they receive a commission from the sale. We keep a percentage of their commission for their savings account and they retain the remainder. The reason behind these programs is to ensure they are set up as well as they can be to start a business or get a job after graduation.
We can educate even more students at the Petros Zoe Vocational Institute through your partnership!
